PEETH PAINTINGS

Peeth is a mural art form practiced in Uttarakhand, typically created around the seating area of gods and goddesses. Using a base of rice paste adorned with colorful natural dyes, Peeth designs incorporate specific motifs and patterns associated with each deity, reflecting divine symbolism and reverence. These intricate patterns, characterized by sacred geometry, often feature elements such as flowers, leaves, divine feet, and trees, arranged around a Chowki or low stool. Unlike Aipan, where artists have the freedom to choose from various designs, Peeth follows prescribed patterns tailored to the worshiped deity, embodying the sacred essence of Uttarakhand's cultural heritage.
